There was a whole page article about Ýstanbul’s Fountains in Hürriyet Newspaper on 18th April 2008 and the title was “10 Most beautiful Fountains in Ýstanbul”. We based on this article while we were studied the samples of our fountains.

  • Ahmed III Fountain, Sultanahmet:

It was built as a fountain in 1729 by Ahmed III who was a sultan in Tulip Era. It is placed between Topkapý Palace and Hagia Sophia. It is a Square Fountain. It represents the era’s luxury and wealth.

  • Tophane Fountain, Tophane:

It was built by Mahmud I. The water was taken from Taksim Water Facility. It was built in 1732. It’s a square fountain with four sides.

  • Saliha Sultan Fountain, Azapkapý:

It is placed just under Unkapaný Bridge. It was repaired in 1950 but it was neglected after 1970s. It was restored again in 2006.

  • III. Ahmed Fountain, Üsküdar:

It’s the meeting point of Üsküdar. It is placed just in the centre of dock square. It was built by Ahmed III in the honour of his mother Gülnuþ Emetullah Valide Sultan in 1728. It is a square fountain with four sides.

  • Valide Fountain, Maçka:

The fountain which was built by Sultan Abdülmecit in the honour of his mother Bezmialem Valide Sultan in 1839 gave its name to the district. It is a square fountain.

  • Mihriþah Sultan Fountain, Küçüksu:

The fountain which is placed next to Küçüksu Kasrý in Göksu was built by Selim III in the honour of his mother Mihriþah Sultan. It’s by the sea.

  • Bereketzade Fountain, Galata:

It is a beautiful Tulip era fountain which was made to fulfill the needs of the folk during Sultan Mahmut I’s era in 1732. It’s stated in Beyoglu on the way to Galata Tower. It has been through various renovations. It’s now a one-sided fountain but it has been estimated that it was a public fountain.

  • The head of Customs, , Beykoz:

It was built by the Landowner Behruz. It’s known as ‘Ten Fountains’ and ‘Ishak the Landowner Fountain’. Ten Fountains is named after the ten spouts which used to flow day and night. It was built in 1747.

  • Hatice Turhan Valide Sultan Fountain, Eminönü:

It’s stated in Bahçekapý. It was built in 1597. It is a public fountain.It burnt down totally in 1902 and was restored again in its original way.

  • Mihrimah Sultan Fountain, Üsküdar:

It’s located under the Sultan Mihrimah Mosque. It was built after the construction of the mosque 133 years later.
