Unfortunately the information about the drinking fountain is deficient. We know from the writing on the fountain that it was built in 1923. As it was built in the year of the foundation of Turkish Republic, it was given this name. We have always accepted the fountains of Istanbul as the part of the Ottoman architecture throughout our studies but this fountain has shown us that the fountain architecture of Ottoman Empire had proceeded after the foundation of the republic.
Fountain of Cumhuriyet is in Abdülezel Paşa Road, beside the city walls of Ayakapı. The fountain was made of marble. The arch that is on two columns isn’t a classic style. The mirror stone is big but simple. There is a girland and a sun motive on its tub. It is written ‘1341’ on the arch and inside it says "Fountain of Republic" in old letters.
