We started the project in February 2008. We made a resource search in the first month and we read and summarized the information we found. Later on, we kept on sharing the interesting information about the subject with each other.
On the other hand, we searched what we needed for the restoration process. For that reason we contacted with the Municipality of Fatih which is on this historical peninsula. After contacting with the Municipality, we decided to have a face to face meeting. On February 28th we met Architect Sema Özyılmaz who works in the Municipality of Fatih Etud Project Manager Department.
She gave us information on how the Municipality of Fatih carried on the restoration process. After that we examined the information about 180 fountains in Fatih from catalogue called “Urban Preserved Area Fountain Identity Pages”. We chose eight fountains that needed restoration from this catalogue. Municipality of Fatih helped us a lot in our working process.
Our target after this was to specify one of the fountains. We chose and searched about this fountain. We informed architect Sema Özyılmaz about the fountain we chose which was Hacı Eyüpzade Fountain in Zeyrek Town and she contacted with Board of Historical Heritage to get permission and the firms who will carry on the restoration process.
However, we faced with a problem. The restoration of the fountain we chose prolonged and in the end we had a negative response. When we got the response, it was end of March. During this time we speeded up our research about Zeyrek Town and Hacı Eyüpzade Fountain. However we had to give up the restoration of this fountain. Therefore we had to choose a new one. Fatih Municipality suggested some fountains to us and they said we could get permission from ‘Anıtlar Yüksek Kurulu’ to visit. At the moment the permission process regarding the restoration of the fountain continues. Meanwhile we started planning the activities we will organize at school. First of all we talked to our Principal and told her about the project. She fully supported us. She encouraged us saying that she will support us in all aspects of our activities. We started to think what we could do in order to inform our friends at school. With the help of brochures, posters and presentations we decided to attract our friends’ attention towards this topic.
Besides we co-operated with the group of fourth and fifth grade volunteer students. We informed them about our project and they shared this information with their classmates. While we were carrying on with our activities, we also searched for companies which could supply sponsorships. While we were carrying on with our activities we also asked for the help of computer teachers about the design of the web page. We decided how and which part of the activities we could transfer on our web page. This part of the project was not only nice but also hard for us. We had a lot of materials that included the activities we did and the information we searched for. |
