English

At Terakki Foundation Şişli Terakki Private Primary School, students learn to value languages, cultures, communication, and lifelong learning. The main purpose of the Primary School English Programme is to raise individuals who are confident, self-reliant English users who are knowledgeable about other cultures, and respectful and understanding of the world they live in. We design activities that enable our students to develop their literacy skills, their ability to access and interpret information, and their ability to communicate effectively in a range of contexts. Throughout their time at Terakki Foundation Şişli Terakki Private Primary School, students gain the knowledge and skills needed to make informed and principled choices about their role as community members in our changing world.

Our learning environments are designed to enable our students to use English in real-life settings. Students develop independent learning skills alongside their social and self-management skills in individual and group learning environments. In addition, systems are in place to ensure that our students are guided and supported to reach their potential on their language learning journey.
The use of technology plays an important role in learning and offers opportunities for personalised learning. The library as a resource and a gateway to reading is promoted by library visits and the use of e-resources and hard copy books in class.

In Grade 4, students are ready to inquire and more deeply question a range of subjects. They explore global and local issues in English while completing projects connected to the real
world. Building on their previous studies, students use English to write texts with different audiences and purposes, debate ideas, present their work, collaborate with peers, research
ideas and create. At the end of the academic year, students present their learning to their family members in the PYP Exhibition.
