TELT TALK mini forum events organized by the Foreign Language Department took place on Saturday, February 17, at Terakki Foundation Schools, Levent campus. Each TELT Talk series focuses on a topic, with brief presentations and roundtable meetings organized by the experts in the field. On February 17th, the focus was on the use of technology in foreign language teaching. Cambridge University publishing company joined the event with its representatives and experts in this field.
Participants from Terakki Foundation Schools namely Özge Karaoğlu Ergen, Yaz Özlü, JansetAltay and the founders of ETZ academy and Işıl Boy Ergül, organizer of the Technology Summit in Education, participated in the event with their presentations.
One of the speakers Özge Karaoğlu Ergen shared the interactive activities that could be done in the classroom using minimum resources in technology. Among these activities; creating a story using mobile phones, writing a summary of a story by using emojis, TPR activities using onlineteleprompter, and using hashtags in lessons were presented in detail.
The other speaker, Yasemin Özlü talked about different web tools and mobile applications that would improve the motivation and creativity of the students. In this session, applications included GoNoodle, Story Starter, Sketch Together, CrossWord Labs, Pecha Flicker, Linoit, Penzu were presented by Özlü.
Işıl Boy Ergül talked about how to use the augmented reality in English education and introduced some different applications and web tools related to it. Among the tools she introduced wereAurasma, Morfo, Quiver, Quivervision.
Janset Altay presented the advantages of using Google Classroom and some other Google applications. She gave specific classroom examples in her presentation related to these tools’ applications in writing lessons.
During the roundtable sessions, Armağan Çıtak and Nurhan Demirbilek talked about how to create content such as video, story, etc. in class or distance education. Powtoon, Animator, GoAnimate, iMovie, Camtasia, StoryJumper, StoryBird, StoryMaker, iBook Author, Sock Puppet, Puppet Pals and Green Screen were some of the tools mentioned in this session. Işıl Boy Ergül talked about how we could ensure safety in the virtual world. Özge Karaoğlu Ergen mentioned the pros and cons of integrating technology in education.
