At our Levent Campus, the IBDP students have championed the establishment of a library in Şanlıurfa through their “Book Collection Campaign” initiated as part of CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service).
Volunteer students from the IBDP took proactive measures to cultivate a culture of reading at Hamurkesen Secondary School in Şanlıurfa with their project titled “Book Drive,” conducted within the scope of CAS.
The students, namely Defne Demirel, Ekin Günay, Defne Kurtkaya, Naz Mısır, Alara Hızlan, Zeynep Özerdem, Ceren Arabacıoğlu, and Mina Güleç from 10IBH; Naz Tepeçam, Doğa Nil Özdemir, Muhammet Ali Bekir, and Elif Akan from 10 IBE, assumed pivotal roles in the project. They established various book collection stations across the campus and rallied fellow students and teachers to contribute books. Additionally, they publicised the event through posters displayed on the walls, garnering widespread community support.
Each collection box arranged by the students included a special note, underscoring the significance of reading: “To live without books is to live blind, deaf, and mute,” read one message aimed at inspiring their peers.
Furthermore, the students organised a Bake Sale as part of the project and utilised the proceeds to dispatch books to Şanlıurfa.
This project directly aligns with SDG 4 Quality Education, a crucial target under the UN Sustainable Development Goals. By broadening access to educational resources through books, this initiative exemplifies a significant stride towards enhancing educational opportunities. Through this project, our IB students have not only contributed to the establishment of a library but have also heightened awareness regarding education and fostered social awareness.
